About Next To Normal

See the critically acclaimed West End transfer of the Donmar Warehouse’s production of Next to Normal. Book Next to Normal tickets in the West End on London Theatre.

Diana Goodman seemingly has the perfect suburban family life, but it soon becomes clear all is far from normal. As Diana battles with bipolar disorder, the Goodman family confront the challenges of living with grief and mental illness. Next to Normal is a raw and emotional musical that takes you on a journey through the highs and lows of the Goodman family.

In a four-star review on London Theatre, our critic said: “This raw musical tackles mental illness with courage, wit and deep empathy.”

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Next to Normal features a dynamic rock score by Tony, Emmy, and Grammy Award-winning composer Tom Kitt and Tony Award-winning lyricist Brian Yorkey. Michael Longhurst, artistic director at the Donmar Warehouse, directs the West End transfer.

The NEXT TO NORMAL cast will include Caissie Levy (Frozen, Leopoldstat, Caroline or Change) as Diana Goodman, Jamie Parker (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Crown) as Dan, Jack Wolfe (Next to Normal, Shadow and Bone) as Gabe, Eleanor Worthington-Cox (Jerusalem, Matilda the Musical) as Natalie, Trevor Dion Nicholas (Hamilton, Aladdin) as Dr Madden/Dr Fine, and Jack Ofrecio (The Merry Wives of Windsor) as Henry

Next to Normal was first conceived in 1998 under the title Feeling Electric. After various workshops, the musical debuted as Next to Normal at the Second Stage Theatre Off-Broadway. The original Off-Broadway cast featured Alice Ripley as Diana, Brian d’Arcy James as Dan, Aaron Tveit as Gabe, Jennifer Damiano as Natalie, Adam Chanler-Berat as Henry, and Asa Somers as Dr. Madden. Opening on Broadway in 2009, Next to Normal earned three Tony Awards, including Best Original Score for Kitt and Yorkey.
